Tough Second Half Sends Geneva to Season-Opening Loss to Lancaster Bible

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's soccer team suffered a season-opening loss to Lancaster Bible College on Friday night on the opening night of the Nate Ferraco Classic, with the Chargers using four second-half goals to pull away from the Golden Tornadoes for a 4-0 victory.

The first half was a very evenly played half, with neither team able to generate much attack.  Freshman Gabe Singh (Valencia, Pa./Mars) had Geneva's best chance of the half, but his shot from close range went just past the far post.  Lancaster Bible registered five shots in the half, two on goal, while the Golden Tornadoes had three shots, none on goal, in the scoreless first half.

Things changed quickly in the second half.  Just over two minutes into the half, Lancaster Bible's Sam Glock put one in the back of the net.  Before the Golden Tornadoes could regroup, Kedric Yoder made it 2-0 less than a minute later.

Geneva struggled to generate much offensively in the second half, and the Chargers put the game away with two goals in the final 20 minutes.

Lancaster Bible finished with 13 shots, eight on goal.  Senior Gabriel Kemp (Normalville, Pa./Connellsville) made four saves.  Geneva managed eight shots, but the Golden Tornadoes were unable to put a shot on frame.

Geneva gets right back into action tomorrow night on the second night of the Nate Ferraco Classic.  The Golden Tornadoes host Houghton College at 6:00 p.m. at the Merriman Athletic Complex.  Houghton lost to Grove City on Fright night, 5-1, in the other game of the classic.  Lancaster Bible will head to Grove City to take on the Wolverines to finish up the classic.
