BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College women's tennis team picked up a spring victory on Wednesday evening at Blackhawk Courts, defeating visiting Carlow 8-1. The Golden Tornadoes improved to 7-6 on the season.
Geneva picked up two wins in the doubles portion of the match. Freshman Lauren Estes and sophomore Delaney Winterhalter took #1 doubles, 8-3. Senior Laura Lin Comollo and junior Ella Miller earned a win in #2 doubles, 8-3.
The Golden Tornadoes won all six singles matches. Estes easily won #1 singles 6-0, 6-2. Winterhalter fought hard to win #2 singles 7-5, 6-4, while Comollo added a tough 6-3, 7-6(3) win in #3 singles. Freshman Jenna Allison had to go to a tiebreaker to earn a win in #4 singles 2-6, 7-5, 10-1. Junior Jessica Bout picked up a win in #5 singles 7-5, 6-3, while sophomore Cassy Kehs won in #6 singles 6-1, 6-1.
"This is exactly the kind of match we like to have in the spring season," said Head Coach Mandee Craft. "We were tested in a number of the matches, but we were able to come through and improve in strategy and adjustments."
The women wrap up their spring season this Friday with a 6:00 p.m. match at Penn State Altoona.
