GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Geneva College women's tennis team got off to a great start to the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) portion of its schedule on Monday afternoon, sweeping the Thiel Tomcats on the road, 9-0. Geneva improved to 2-1 on the year, 1-0 in PAC play.
Geneva easily swept through the doubles portion of the match to open play. Sophomore Lauren Estes and junior Delaney Winterhalter won 8-4 in #1 doubles. Freshman Rachel Hodsden and Isabel Kleiman had an even smoother match in #2 doubles, winning 8-0, while sophomore CeJaelyn Perednia and Jenna Allison also earned an 8-0 victory in #3 doubles.
Estes breezed through her match in #1 singles, winning in a sweep 6-0, 6-0. Winterhalter also made quick work of her opponent in #2 singles, winning 6-2, 6-0. Hodsden had to battle to win #3 singles, taking her match to a third-set tiebreaker before prevailing 2-6, 6-1, 10-3. Kleiman took #4 singles 6-2, 6-2, while senior Jessica Bout swept her opponent in #5 singles 6-0, 6-0. Senior Ella Miller wrapped up the day with a 6-4, 6-2 victory in #6 singles.
"We had a strong start to our PAC play today," said Head Coach Mandee Craft. "Our doubles teams stepped up, and then singles followed suit."
The women will have a much stiffer test on Wednesday when they host preseason PAC favorite Allegheny for their home opener. The match is slated to start at 6:00 p.m.
