Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Beats Thiel, 2-0, in PAC Opener

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. --- Sophomore Wil Dunda provided the spark the Geneva College men's soccer team needed to beat Thiel, 2-0, at Reeves Field on Saturday night. It was the Golden Tornadoes first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game of the season and the squad improved to 4-4-1 overall, 1-0 in the PAC.

Dunda put Geneva on the board in the 30th minute on a free kick from 20 yards away after freshman Ojha Ojha was taken down just outside the box.  Dunda hit a laser beam just inside the far post, giving Thiel's keeper no chance to make the save.  The goal was a just reward for the Golden Tornadoes consistent pressure throughout much of the first half.

Geneva' second goal came 15 minutes into the second half, this one also coming off a free kick in Thiel's end.  This free kick was from 25 yards out at the corner of Thiel box.  Dunda put a low, dangerous curling cross through the box.  Sophomore Mike Rogers was waiting at the back post, but before he could get a foot on it a Tomcat defender's sliding attempt to clear the ball knocked the ball into Thiel's net, giving the Golden Tornadoes an insurance goal.

Geneva's defense completely shut down the Tomcat attack in the second half.  Dunda almost had another goal two minutes later when his shot from 30 yards away skimmed off the top of the crossbar.  The Golden Tornadoes saw out the victory from there, 2-0.

The final totals reflected how much possession and pressure the Geneva offense put together, with the Golden Tornadoes holding an 18-4 edge in shots and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.  Junior goalkeeper Evan Shale kept a clean sheet for his second career shutout, making four saves in the win.

The Golden Tornadoes return to action on Wednesday, September 27, at 4:30 p.m. at PAC foe Bethany.
