Women’s Soccer Picks up Big Win at Thiel with Musser's Hat Trick

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Geneva College women's soccer team broke through on Wednesday afternoon with a 5-0 victory at Thiel, led by senior Saige Musser's hat trick.  The Golden Tornadoes seemed to let out some frustration on the Tomcats after several frustrating losses to start Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play.

Geneva was the aggressor early on, with both senior Olivia Anson and junior Emily Garvin registering shots within the first minute of the match.  That was a sign of things to come as the Golden Tornadoes peppered the Tomcat goal with shots until Garvin broke through with a goal in the 23rd minute on Geneva's 15th shot of the half, off a throw-in from Musser.

Garvin's goal seemed to open the floodgates.  Just over one minute later, Musser found the back of the net on a shot off a free kick that slid just inside the near post, and 30 seconds later, Anson scored off a cross from Musser to triple the Golden Tornado lead just over halfway through the first half.  Two minutes later, Musser added her second goal of the match, finishing off a rebound of her own shot, Geneva's fourth score in four minutes.

After the flurry of Geneva goals, the game settled down a little bit as the Golden Tornadoes began to bring in several reserves off their bench, and that's where the score stayed heading into the break.  Geneva held a 25-2 edge in shots in the first half.  Fourteen of those 25 shots were on frame.

Geneva added a fifth goal in the 59th minute on another shot from Musser that deflected into the net off a Thiel defender, her third goal of the match.  That was the final scoring of the contest as the women finished off the shutout, 5-0.

Geneva held a big edge in shots, 36-5, including a 20-3 advantage in shots on goal.  Musser led the team with 10 shot total, including five on goal.  Senior goalkeeper Jade Farnsworth made three saves for her second shutout of the season.

The women will be off this weekend before returning to action next Tuesday when they host Chatham on Reeves Field at 7:00 p.m.
