Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Edged by Chatham

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College women's soccer team was edged out by Chatham on Tuesday evening, 1-0, with the Cougars scoring a goal midway through the second half to secure the victory.  The loss likely eliminates the Golden Tornadoes from any postseason chances.

Chatham had the better of the play in the first half, and it was the play of senior goalkeeper Jade Farnsworth that helped keep the Cougars off the board.  Chatham outshot Geneva 8-2 in the opening frame, with Farnsworth making four saves total, including on a couple of shots that looked like they were likely goals.  Senior Saige Musser had Geneva's best chance in the opening half, but her shot in the 26th minute from a tight angle was saved by Chatham's keeper.

The Cougars broke through in the 61st minute when Chatham's leading scorer, Ainsley Smith, corralled a deflection at the top of Geneva's box and slotted a shot just inside the near post and out of Farnsworth's diving attempt.

The Golden Tornadoes pushed hard over the final 20 minutes looking for an equalizer, and the women had a couple of chances that just went wide allowing Chatham to close out the win, 1-0.

Chatham finished the game with an 18-9 edge in shots, including a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal.  Farnsworth made nine saves to keep the Golden Tornadoes in the game.  Musser led the team with four shots.

Geneva will head to Waynesburg on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. contest before finishing the season with a home game against Franciscan next Tuesday night.
