BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College women's tennis team wrapped up its season on Wednesday night with a sweep of visiting Thiel on a night the women celebrated their two seniors, Abby Kehs and Delaney Winterhalter. The victory gives Geneva a winning record to close out the semester, 7-6.
Geneva got off to a great start in doubles play. Freshman Chloe DeSanzo and junior Lauren Estes won No. 1 doubles, 6-1. Winterhalter and sophomore Rachel Hodsden won in No. 2 doubles by the same score, 6-1, and sophomores Emma Kline and Julia Grove took No. 3 doubles by the same 6-1 score.
In singles play, DeSanzo almost swept her opponent in No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1, while Estes almost did the same thing in No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-2. Winterhalter was equally impressive in No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-2, while Hodsden won her match in No. 4 singles easily as well 6-1, 6-1. The final two singles matches were similarly lopsided, with sophomore Paris Silverstein taking No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-0 and Kehs winning No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-1.
"Our seniors had a great match tonight, and it's always a blessing to be able to honor the hard work they've put in through the years," said Head Coach Mandee Craft. "It's also nice to end the season on a high note."
