ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Geneva College women's tennis team traveled to Mount Union on Thursday afternoon for its first match of the spring, and in a match that came down to the final singles flight, Mount Union pulled out a 4-3 win.
The women performed well during the doubles portion of the match, earning the doubles point. Freshman
Chloe DeSanzo and junior
Lauren Estes took No. 1 doubles 6-4, while junior
Jenna Allison and
CeJaelyn Perednia won No. 3 doubles 6-4.
Early in singles play, with Geneva playing well, rain came and forced the teams to move indoors, and the unique surface seemed to give the home team an advantage. DeSanzo took her match in No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-2, and Estes won in No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-2. Unfortunately the women couldn't earn a point in the final four singles matches, allowing Mount Union to come from behind to win the match.
"We got off to a strong start in doubles, but we ultimately couldn't keep it up well enough in singles play," said Head Coach
Mandee Craft. "Chloe and Lauren had great wins in singles, though."
The women are scheduled to have their first home match of the spring on Saturday against Pitt-Greensburg, but forecasted rain could force the postponement of that match.
