Carroll and Standish School Records Highlight Strong Performances at Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The calendar turned to February this week, which means the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships are just three weeks away, and the Geneva College men's and women's track and field teams put together their best performances of the season on Friday and Saturday at the Youngstown State Mid Major Invitational.  Sophomores Hailey Carroll and Allison Standish highlighted the performances with school record performances at the meet with 35 schools and clubs in attendance, including multiple Division I and Division II schools.

Standish opened the weekend on Friday in the weight throw where she tossed the weight 13.94 meters, a new school record, breaking her own record from last year.  She also threw in the shot put on Saturday and finished with an effort of 10.20 meters.

Carroll, who had been easing into the track and field season after a standout fall season for Geneva in cross country, put together her best performance of the track season, finishing third overall in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:18.75, besting her own school record in the event from last year by over two seconds.

Junior Madison Castro wasn't too far behind Carroll in the 800-meter race, finishing with a time of 2:26.96, while she also added a time of 5:26.90 in the mile.

Junior Saige Musser had another strong day in the sprints, running 8.20 seconds in the 60-meter dash and 27.14 seconds in the 200-meter dash.  Freshman Brooklen Helton added a time of 1:04.02 in the 400-meter dash.

Sophomore Emma Parnell had another strong day in the jumps for Geneva.  She jumped 10.51 meters in the triple jump and a season-best 4.97 meters in the long jump.

On the men's side, junior Kevin Arseneaux put together his best performance of the track and field season after easing into the year following a strong fall season in cross country.  He was the only Golden Tornado on the day to bring home a first-place finish, winning the 800-meter race with a time of 1:53.86, just .20 seconds off his own school record.  Freshman Evan Groce also broke two minutes in the event, finishing in 1:59.16.

Graduate student Jack Garvin also had another huge day in the high jump, tying his school record set last week in the event by clearing 2.06 meters again, which placed him second at the event.

Junior Desmond Lewis had a busy day in the sprints.  He ran the 60-meter dash in 7.34 seconds, the 200-meter dash in 22.88 seconds, and the 400-meter dash in 52.05 seconds.

Senior Noah Foust had another strong day in the throws.  He tossed a season-best 14.19 meters in the weight throw, while adding a toss of 13.92 meters in the shot put, also a season-best.

Next weekend both the men and women will send qualifiers to Cedarville University to take part in the National Christian College Athletic Association Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday.
