Five Track and Field Women Honored as Academic All-District Selections

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Five women from the Geneva College track and field program were honored by the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday on the Academic All-District Team.  Graduate student Catherine O'Donnell, juniors Hailey Carroll and Carmen Medvit, and sophomores Kaelyn Hartman and Katelyn Mathews were recognized for their strong performances both in competition and in the classroom.

To be eligible to receive distinction on the all-district team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and hold a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50.  The student-athletes must also have placed among the top 50 athletes in the regional cross country championship or finished among the top 50 competitors in the region in an event in either the indoor or outdoor track and field season.

O'Donnell was honored for her performance in the outdoor 3000-meter steeplechase, Carroll excelled in the indoor 800-meter and mile races, Medvit finished in the top 50 in the indoor mile and 5000-meter races, while also adding top-50 finishes in the outdoor 1500-meter and 5000-meter races, Hartman was recognized for her performance in both the indoor and outdoor long jump and triple jump, while Mathews was honored for her top-50 placements in both the indoor and outdoor high jump.
