PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Geneva College women's tennis team swept Carlow 9-0 on Saturday afternoon in the opener of the short spring season for the ladies. Geneva improved to 6-8 on the season.
In doubles play, junior Delaney Winterhalter and sophomore Lauren Estes won in No. 1 singles, 8-3. Sophomore CeJaelyn Perednia and freshman Rachel Hodsden won in No. 2 singles, 8-2. Sophomore Jenna Allison and freshman Emma Kline finished up the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win in No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Estes won in No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1. Winterhalter was just as convincing in No. 2 doubles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Hodsden took No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-0, while freshman Isabel Kleiman won No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-3. Allison played in No. 5 singles, and after winning a tough first set in a tiebreak 7-6, her opponent retired. Perednia finished up the singles play with a 6-3, 6-2 victory in No. 6 singles.
The women will return to action in a couple weeks when the Golden Tornadoes travel to Waynesburg on April 10 for a match at 4:00 p.m.
