Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

DeSanzo Stays Undefeated as Women’s Tennis Falls to Wolverines

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Geneva continued to get excellent play from freshman Chloe DeSanzo, but it wasn't enough to keep the Golden Tornadoes from ultimately dropping their match 6-1 to Grove City on Wednesday evening. The Wolverines are one of the toughest teams in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), but DeSanzo showed her mettle with wins in the both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. After the loss, Geneva's record now sits at 3-2 overall, 0-2 in conference play, while Grove City remains pristine early in the season at 3-0, 2-0 in the PAC.

DeSanzo has yet to lose a match since arriving at Geneva in late August, and she made a statement on Wednesday by keeping that streak alive with a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the top flight of singles play against a very good Grove City team. That victory proved to be the only point that Geneva would take in the match, although DeSanzo and junior Lauren Estes also took their No. 1 doubles match, 6-4. The women lost the other two doubles matches, meaning they did not take the doubles point.

"You can see why Grove City's team was PAC champions last year," said head coach Mandee Craft after the match. "They are just so solid, one through six. We played well in stretches but it just wasn't enough today."

Geneva won't have to wait long for another chance to get back into the win column, as the women travel to Ursuline on Friday for a match at 4:00 PM.
