BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Fans who stuck around for the completion of Homecoming on Saturday night were treated with one of the most dramatic finishes in Geneva men's soccer history when senior Wil Dunda, on his own Senior Night, scored with 21 seconds remaining to give Geneva a thrilling 1-0 victory over Waynesburg.  The win clinches a spot in the upcoming Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) playoffs with one regular season match remaining.  The men are now 6-9-1 overall, 5-4-1 in the PAC.
Geneva entered Saturday night's final home game of the regular season needing a win to ensure the Golden Tornadoes secured a spot in the upcoming PAC playoffs which start in a week, and they began the evening by celebrating a record 12 seniors who are finishing up their Geneva careers after putting together one of the best four-year runs in program history.  That stretch included a 2023 PAC Championship and a record 28-match PAC regular season unbeaten streak, along with now four consecutive trips to PAC playoffs.
Waynesburg also had much to play for coming into the match, with the Yellow Jackets needing a win and some help to try to grab one of the final PAC playoffs spots, and the first half was a defensive struggle as neither team managed to create many good chances.  Geneva did hold a 6-2 edge in shots at the break.
The Golden Tornadoes came out of the half with the better of the play, pushing to find a goal that would clinch a postseason berth.  The Geneva pressure kept building, but the Golden Tornadoes saw their chances fail to find the back of the net despite several good opportunities.
However, just when it felt like things were going to end in a frustrating scoreless draw that would leave the Golden Tornadoes needing to secure a win in their final regular season match at Franciscan on Wednesday, the magic occurred.  Freshman Msafiri Amisi ran onto a ball down the wing in the closing seconds and sent a beautifully struck pass through the box that found Dunda open on the back post.  Dunda settled the ball, faked a defender and then sent a shot just inside the near post from ten yards away with 21 seconds left to set off a wild celebration for the Golden Tornadoes and their large crowd of fans in the stands.
The result was a well-deserved one for the Golden Tornadoes who had applied most of the pressure throughout the second half.  Geneva finished the game with a 15-8 advantage in shots, but an 8-1 edge in shots on goal.  Freshman Noah Buchanan made one save to earn the shutout in goal.
Geneva now heads to Franciscan on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff knowing its spot in the PAC playoffs is secure.  If the Golden Tornadoes can defeat Franciscan while Saint Vincent loses at Allegheny, Geneva could finish as high as fourth which would give the Golden Tornadoes a home playoff match in the first round.
