BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – After five matches of non-conference play, the Geneva women's lacrosse program began its Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday, dropping their contest against Westminster 24-2.
After falling behind early to the Titans in the first quarter, Geneva was awarded a free-position shot late in the period. Junior
Hannah Skwarek took the attempt for the women, slotting the ball home for her second goal of the season. Unfortunately, Westminster scored four more times before the quarter ended, taking an 8-1 lead into the first break.
Geneva's second and final goal came in similar fashion to the first. Just over two and a half minutes into the second half, the Golden Tornadoes earned another free position attempt, this time taken by sophomore
Mara Fowlow. Fowlow slipped through two Titan defenders on her way towards the net, going low against the Westminster keeper to make the score 16-2. The Titans controlled the match the rest of the way, however, winning 24-2.
While Skwarek and Fowlow scored the only goals for Geneva, freshman Amanda Gilette and sophomore
Julianna Easley registered three and two shots on goal, respectively. Gilette also notched two caused turnovers and three ground balls, with freshman
Taylor Robinson picking up three ground balls as well. Junior
Lexi Lee got the start in net for the GTs and made nine saves.
The women travel to Ohio next Tuesday, March 25, for a non-conference game with Malone at 4:00 p.m. before heading to Saint Vincent the following Saturday.
