Women’s Volleyball Set for New Season to Begin

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – As the Geneva women's volleyball program prepares to begin their season this fall, the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) released its preseason coaches' poll on Thursday morning. However, the poll looks a little bit different this year when compared to past seasons. Women's volleyball will be the first PAC sport to showcase the divisional structure that some sports will adhere to this season, with the conference being divided into North and South Divisions. The Golden Tornadoes were picked to finish sixth overall in the North Division, while Allegheny College was picked first. Saint Vincent College was the top vote-getter from the South Division.

The women entered this offseason with some holes to fill after losing three seniors and two graduate students to graduation. Head coach Wendy Smith will be looking to fill those gaps with a few different impact returners, as well as some promising newcomers.

A four-player senior class returns for the Golden Tornadoes this year, headlined by All-PAC outside hitter Emily Nelson. She finished second on the team with 276 kills last season, as well as a team high 52 aces, en route to receiving Honorable Mention All-PAC recognition. Libero Heather Seubert, who led Geneva defensively with 433 digs last year, will provide solid veteran experience along the back. Those two are joined by Evelyn Stroup and Abigail Glumac to round out the senior class.

The junior class features three middle hitters who played significant roles last season, led by Katie Seboe and Daphne Alexander. Both players contributed at least 50 blocks last year, with Seboe recording 119 kills as well. Gracyn Lee joins them up front after carving out a role in the rotation toward the last month of the 2024 season.

Smith's team features ten underclassmen, including seven freshmen. Many of them will compete for regular playing time.

The Golden Tornadoes begin their season on August 29th with a weekend trip to Morrisville, New York, where they will face off with Western New England, SUNY Polytechnic, SUNY Morrisville, and Alfred State over the course of two days. Their first match, against Western New England, is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on the 29th.
