NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Both the Geneva men's and women's cross country teams began their seasons on Friday up at Westminster College, with several runners from each side competing in the Westminster Fisher Invite. The format for both the men's and women's side was a 5k race, instead of the usual 6k and 8k races that are normally run at the NCAA level.
Senior
Eli Eisenberger was the top finisher for either side on the evening, placing sixth overall in the men's race with a time of 16:09.47. Right behind him in eighth place was senior
Tommy Corbin, who ran a 16:11.73, and yet another senior placed in the top 15 for the men with
Karter Reath running a 16:27.81 and taking 11
th overall. Senior
Benjamin Perka, freshman
Xaver Alexander, and senior
Evan Freil all finished in the top 30 at the event.
Head coach
Phil Thompson opted to keep his best runners out of the race on the women's side as
Carmen Medvit,
Hailey Carroll, and
Audrey McAlister did not compete. Freshman
Molly Husted was the top finisher for the Golden Tornado women, taking 25
th overall with a time of 20:59.75. Fellow freshman
Nicole Ochs finished second for Geneva and 27
th overall, crossing the line in 21:02.69. Juniors
Lydia Nagel and
Anna Castro, as well as senior
Jordann Hicks, rounded out the top five for the women.
Neither cross country team is slated to compete again for over three weeks. Barring any schedule changes, the next meet for both the men and women will be on Saturday, September 20
th, at Allegheny College. Many PAC schools are expected to send runners to the meet.
