PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – The Geneva women's tennis program got back in the win column on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Ursuline College 7-0 to earn the sweep. After the Golden Tornadoes dropped their two matches last week, today's victory was an important momentum-builder as the team enters conference play. It was the GTs' third sweep of the season and bumps their record up to 3-2 on the year.
Geneva began by dominating the Arrows in doubles play, getting victories in all three flights. Sophomore
Chloe DeSanzo and senior
Lauren Estes started things off with a 6-1 victory in No. 1 doubles, followed by a 6-0 sweep by junior
Rachel Hodsden and senior
CeJaelyn Perednia in the No. 2 spot. Senior
Jenna Allison and freshman
Paige Phillips rounded out the doubles victories by taking the third flight match handily, 6-2.
DeSanzo stayed hot in No. 1 singles, winning her matchup 6-0, 6-0. It is her fifth consecutive singles victory to start the season, and her eighth straight dating back to last season. Estes coasted to a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 2 spot, and Hodsden hung on in the second set of her No. 3 singles match to come out on top 6-0, 6-4.
Perednia played in the No. 4 spot for Geneva today, nabbing the win 6-3, 6-0. Freshman
Abigail Anderson continued her strong play in No. 5 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory, and junior
Caroline Reed finished out the day by winning the No. 6 singles match 6-2, 6-3.
Although the GTs have already played one Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match this season, they enter the bulk of their PAC schedule later this week, with seven of their next eight matches taking place against conference opponents. This Friday, September 19
th, the women head off to Westminster, with the match scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
