Women’s Soccer Earns Huge Win at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Geneva College women's soccer team picked up a huge 1-0 victory at Westminster on Saturday afternoon, giving the Golden Tornadoes their second straight win to open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play.  The win also breaks a 12-game losing streak to the Titans, improving Geneva's record to 3-3-3 overall, 2-0 in the PAC.

The match proved to be a very even affair.  Neither team created much offensively in the first half, with both teams finishing with four shots apiece at the halftime break.  Freshman goalkeeper Natalie Foster easily handled the one shot on frame that she faced.

The second half was a similar defensive effort until, with 13 minutes remaining, Westminster made a defensive mistake.  A Titan defender tried to pass the ball back to her goalie, but her pass was too soft.  Junior Madalyn Fales ran onto the ball, dribbled around the Westminster keeper who had come off her line, and shot the ball into the empty net to give the Golden Tornadoes the lead.  It was Fales first collegiate goal.

Geneva's defense took it from there, not allowing the Titans any chances in closing out the 1-0 victory, Geneva's sixth shutout already this season.

Westminster finished with a slight edge in shot, 9-7, but Geneva held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal.  Foster made three saves to earn her sixth shutout.

Geneva now has a huge test up next as the Golden Tornadoes welcome Grove City to town on Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. match with the Wolverines.
