HIRAM, Ohio – The Geneva women's volleyball team continued to slide on Wednesday evening at Hiram College, falling to the Terriers in three sets (14-25, 12-25, 9-25). Not much went right for the Golden Tornadoes as they faced one of the top teams in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). After starting the season 7-6, the women now stand at 7-13 overall, 0-5 in PAC play.
The GTs hung with Hiram for the first several points of set one, gaining a slim 8-7 advantage following a kill and an ace by freshman
Sarah Elkins on back-to-back points. An 8-1 Terrier run put the hosts firmly in the driver's seat, however, and they won the set 25-14.
The next two sets were not as close, with Hiram going ahead 8-1 in the second frame and 14-3 in the third. Geneva struggled to control its attack, with Golden Tornado errors the cause of many of the Terrier points. Hiram completed the sweep by winning the final two sets.
Senior
Daphne Alexander registered a team-high five kills. Freshman
Kyla Kephart directed the attack with nine assists, and sophomore
Ruthie Land, who wore the libero shirt, notched 15 digs.
Geneva is on the road again for their next match, a 12:00 p.m. contest at Washington & Jefferson this Saturday, October 17.
