WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Geneva women's soccer team dropped a road contest to Washington & Jefferson College Saturday afternoon, falling to the Presidents 3-0. In what was a one-goal affair for most of the match, the Golden Tornadoes could not find their rhythm in the attack, mustering just two shots on goal. Their record slips to 3-4-4 on the season, and they are now 0-2-3 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.
The GTs could not get much going offensively in the first half despite winning three corner kicks in the frame to just one by the Presidents. W&J broke the scoreless stalemate in the 43
rd minute after having the better of the play for a while, taking a 1-0 lead into the break.
Geneva's best chance of the match came just four minutes into the second half. Freshman
Britton Kibbey received a back pass along the right sideline and drove a looping pass into the box, where senior
Madalyn Fales ran onto it and got a shot off. Unfortunately, the Presidents' keeper was well-positioned and made the save to keep the GTs off the board. W&J scored twice more in the final 11 minutes of the match to seal their victory.
The hosts were on the front foot for most of the match, as evidenced by their 19-7 advantage in shots taken. Senior
Renae Singh was the top attacker for the women, generating three shots, one on target. Sophomore goalkeeper
Natalie Foster made three saves in the loss.
The Golden Tornadoes travel to Saint Francis University next Wednesday, October 7, for a 4:00 p.m. match with the Red Wolves. After that, they will return to Beaver Falls for a Homecoming Weekend match with Saint Vincent on Saturday.
