BRADFORD, Pa. – The Geneva College women's lacrosse team headed to Pitt-Bradford on Saturday afternoon for its season opener, hoping for its first program victory against a Panther squad that was hosting its first ever varsity game, but Pitt-Bradford pulled ahead early and won 15-2.
Bradford jumped on Geneva early, scoring the first eight goals of the contest. Junior Julianna Easley's goal late in the second quarter put the Golden Tornadoes on the board, off an assist from junior Mara Fowlow.
Easley opened up the scoring in the third quarter with another goal, assisted by sophomore Alyse Smith, but that was all the Geneva offense could manage. The Panthers scored the final seven goals of the match to win 15-2.
Bradford finished with a big edge in shots, 34-14. Junior goalkeeper Lexi Lee made 15 saves in the match. Easley and Fowlow led the offense with seven and six shots, respectively. Smith led the team with three groundballs, while sophomore Annika Kamerman had three caused turnovers. Fowlow also led the team with three draw controls.
Geneva will be back in action next Saturday when it hosts Mount Aloysius for its home opener at Wright Fields, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
