BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Sophomore libero
Christian Parks earned the first weekly award of his career Tuesday afternoon, receiving the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) men's volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honor after a career-best week. He is the second Geneva men's volleyball player to earn a weekly award from the PAC this season, following freshman
Joshua Stowe's Newcomer of the Week honor four weeks ago.
In two matches for the GTs last week, Parks recorded 31 digs, good enough for 3.44 digs per set. He set a career-best mark with 19 digs in a four-set match versus Penn State Behrend on Saturday, breaking his previous career-high by seven digs. He then recorded 12 digs in five sets in Geneva's PAC opener against Chatham on Saturday. He led the Golden Tornadoes in digs in both matches.
Parks has been tasked this season with taking over for last year's PAC Defensive Player of the Year, former Geneva libero
Joshua Sangrey, who left big shoes to fill. Thus far, Parks has stepped into his libero role readily and has earned a consistent spot in the GTs' rotation entering conference play, averaging 2.53 digs per set to start the year.
The Golden Tornadoes return to action this Wednesday, February 18, as they host Hiram College inside Metheny Fieldhouse at 7:00 p.m.
