BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore sprinter Abe Konneh wrapped up his standout indoor track and field season with an appearance at the NCAA Division III Track and Field National Championships on Friday at the Crossplex Facility in Birmingham, Alabama. Konneh qualified for the 200-meter race at the national meet, competing in the preliminaries of the race on Friday afternoon.
Konneh, who qualified for the national meet with a school record performance at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Indoor Championships two weeks ago when he finished the race in a time of 21.48 seconds, ran in the fifth heat. He finished the race on the 200-meter banked track in 20.07 seconds, placing him 20th at the national championship meet.
Konneh's race brings an end to the historic indoor season for the Geneva men's and women's track and field teams, which saw both programs win the PAC Championship, which Konneh was a big part of on the men's side. He and Head Coach Phil Thompson will fly back to Myrtle Beach to meet up with the rest of the team that is competing in its first outdoor meet, before returning home on the team bus on Monday.
Konneh will take part in his first outdoor meet next meet when Geneva competes at the West Virginia Marty Pushkin Invitational next Saturday, March 21.
