BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – For the first time in a month, the Geneva women's lacrosse team played a match at their home field, dropping their contest with Saint Vincent 19-4 on Saturday afternoon. It was the first time the women had been at Wright Fields since before Spring Break, and therefore was their first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match at home this season. The loss drops their record to 1-10 on the year.
The Bearcats struck early and often, soaring ahead to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter. Geneva sophomore
Taylor Robinson got one back to open the second period, scoring a goal unassisted to put Geneva on the board, and then sophomore
Madi DeRuiter netted another one a few moments later off an assist by senior
Hannah Skwarek. Saint Vincent led 12-2 at the break.
While the Golden Tornadoes' defense played much better than it had in the first quarter, limiting the Saint Vincent attack to just three goals in the third period, it wasn't enough as the Bearcats continued to pull away. Skwarek and Robinson each scored in the fourth quarter, with the latter's goal coming thanks to an assist by junior
Mara Fowlow, and that was where the Geneva scoring ended as the women fell 19-4.
Robinson had the second multi-goal effort of her career, placing three shots on goal in the loss. DeRuiter led the team defensively, registering nine ground balls, five caused turnovers, and two draw controls along with her goal. Junior
Lexi Lee made eight saves in net.
The women will play at home again next Wednesday, April 1, as they take on Bethany College. That match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
