Shelley Wins PAC Award After Impressive Week

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Geneva junior Molly Shelley has been tremendous offensively over the last several games, both at the plate and on the basepaths, and on Monday afternoon she was recognized for her performance when the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) released its weekly awards and she was named the PAC Hitter of the Week. The outfielder has been an integral part of Geneva's current seven-game win streak, and she has helped the Golden Tornadoes win 15 of their last 16 games.

Shelley slashed .440 across Geneva's six wins last week, posting an .800 slugging percentage as well. She scored nine runs, drove in six RBIs, and hit two home runs and three doubles. The junior also stole 10 bases over those six games, with the last one breaking the program record for most career stolen bases. She has now amassed 139 stolen bases throughout her time at Geneva, doing so in less than three seasons.

Shelley's top performances of the week came in doubleheader sweeps against John Carroll and Chatham. Versus JCU, she went an incredible 5-for-7 with three runs, three RBIs, and two home runs, with both of her long bombs coming in the opening at-bat of each game. She also stole three bases against the Blue Streaks. In Geneva's sweep of PAC-opponent Chatham on Saturday she went 3-for-9, notching two runs, two RBIs, and three more stolen bases, including the one that broke the record.

With one more week of PAC play before the conference's playoff tournament, Shelley is currently leading the GTs with a .405 batting average. She is also tops on the team in hits (47), runs scored (36), doubles (10), home runs (3), and stolen bases (44).

The GTs are in action again this afternoon, playing the second game of a postponed doubleheader against Hiram College. First pitch is slated for 4:30 p.m.
