BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College women's lacrosse team hosted Allegheny College on Wright Field on Wednesday afternoon in its penultimate contest of the season, and the Gators left town with a 19-5 victory over the Golden Tornadoes.
Geneva came out energized in the match, scoring back-to-back goals four minutes into the game to grab a 2-1 advantage. Senior Hannah Skwarek scored the first goal off an assist from junior Julianna Easley, while 40 seconds later sophomore Alyse Smith added a second goal.
The Gators responded with the next four goals before junior Mara Fowlow found the back of the net off an assist from Skwarek to pull Geneva within 5-3 with four minutes left in the first quarter.
The Golden Tornadoes struggled over the remainder of the half, though, as Allegheny took a 12-3 lead into the halftime break.
Fowlow and sophomore Madi DeRuiter added goals for Geneva in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the Gators finished off the match, 19-5.
The offense finished with 21 shots, led by sophomore Taylor Robinson's five shots. DeRuiter, Easley and Fowlow each finished with four shots. DeRuiter finished with five caused turnovers and four draw controls.
Sophomore Alaina Ripple also added five caused turnovers, while Fowlow led the team with four groundballs, adding three caused turnovers. Skwarek added three groundballs as nine different players grabbed at least two ground balls.
