BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Senior shortstop
Lexi Zanic was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Hitter of the Week on Monday afternoon, a fitting honor following a week in which she batted over .600 across six games. It is the first time in Zanic's career that she has received a PAC weekly award, despite being named the PAC Player of the Year last season.
Zanic finished with a very impressive .632 batting average last week while leading the women to a 5-1 record over the span of six games. She slugged .895 in those contests, hitting three doubles and a triple while recording 10 RBIs, eight runs, and three stolen bases.
Her week began with a 3-for-4 effort in Geneva's win over Hiram on Monday in which she hit a triple and garnered four RBIs. She then went 3-for-5 in a victory over Grove City on Tuesday, notching a double, an RBI, and two runs. The junior was 4-for-7 at the plate in the GTs' split with Bethany on Wednesday, hitting another double, and then finished up the week with four more RBIs in a doubleheader sweep of Franciscan on Friday's Senior Day.
Zanic has played a critical role for Geneva thus far this season, helping the Golden Tornadoes to a 31-7 overall record and the No. 2 seed in the PAC playoff tournament. The tournament begins this Thursday, April 30, with Geneva taking on the winner of the game between Bethany and Saint Vincent that will be played earlier that day.
