BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva Athletic Department has turned to a familiar face to take over the Director of Cross Country and Track and Field position.  Jason Wargo, the current offensive coordinator on the football team and former Geneva associate head coach of track and field, was selected to assume the responsibility of leading both programs.

"I feel very honored that Dr. Troup, Athletic Director Van Zanic and the entire search committee have the confidence in me to take on this role as the leader of a program that has been so successful for so many years," says Wargo.  "It's an honor and a blessing to be able to build upon the strong foundation that is already in place here.  We want to not only be a program that wins championships, but also a program that develops high-quality, faith-driven athletes who become leaders both on the campus and in the places they serve after graduation.  This is just another example of how the Lord has been so gracious to me in my life, and I'm especially blessed to have such a wonderful wife in Rachel who has always been there to support me in everything I've been called to do.  She's a strong woman of faith, and I wouldn't be where I am without her by my side."

Wargo has deep Geneva roots.  He graduated from Geneva in 1995, competing as an offensive lineman on the football team and a thrower on the track and field team.  He returned to Geneva in 2000 as an assistant football coach, and he later served four years as the Associate Head Coach of Track and Field, beginning in 2010.

After leaving Geneva in 2014, he spent six years at Franklin Area High School serving as the Head Track and Field Coach along with coaching in the football program as an offensive and defensive coordinator at various times.  He then moved on to Maplewood High School to serve as the Head Football Coach before returning to Geneva in 2025 as the offensive coordinator where the Golden Tornadoes put up significant offensive numbers last year after it moved to a spread attack.

"Coach Wargo made it abundantly clear to the search committee that he was the right person to move the track and field and cross-country programs forward," says Zanic.  "Coach Wargo has been a part of the Geneva College culture for a long time and has an understanding of loyalty and love for student athletes that is essential in continuing to build our athletic department. He is passionate about the program and has college experience that will enable him to keep this train moving down the track. I am excited to see the growth of the program under his leadership for many years to come."

Wargo will continue in his role as the football program's offensive coordinator for the next three months before switching fully to cross country and track and field at the conclusion of the football season.  The cross country teams this season will be primarily led by assistant coaches Chris Lucas and Jarron Mihoci, with Wargo assisting as he is able around his football duties, which will be his primary focus for the next three months.  The football program will then begin a search for a new offensive coordinator once the season finishes.

Wargo and his wife Rachel, who is also a Geneva graduate, have two children, Maylee and Maryanne.
