PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Geneva College women's volleyball team traveled to Division II Point Park on Wednesday night and battled the Pioneers in some tight sets, nearly winning two before falling 27-25, 25-16, 26-24. Geneva is now 6-4 on the season.
Geneva had a great chance to take the first set. Things were tight the whole set before three straight points put the women at set point, 24-21. Unfortunately, Geneva couldn't get that elusive last point. Point Park scored the next three points to pull even, and after a kill from freshman Sarah Elkins, the Pioneers scored the final three points to steal the set away, 27-25.
Geneva jumped ahead 4-0 in the second set, getting a kill from sophomore Rachel Baird and an ace from freshman Kyla Kephart. However, the Pioneers went on a 13-3 run a couple minutes later to take control of the set, and Point Park closed out the set 25-16.
The third set was tight for most of the play. Point Park appeared to be pulling away late, using a run to grab a 21-17 edge, but Geneva battled back to even the score at 24-24. However, the Pioneers scored the final two points to win 26-24.
Senior Katie Seboe led the offense with nine kills, while Elkins added seven kills. Kephart finished with 14 assists, while freshman Vanessa Crider posted a team-high 11 digs.
Geneva's road stretch will continue this weekend. The women will play at Wilmington on Friday night before a tri-match at Kenyon on Saturday.
