BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva women's tennis team got their second sweep in three days on Wednesday evening, defeating the visiting Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats 7-0 on the Blackhawk High School courts. That victory comes after the Golden Tornadoes notched their first win of the season earlier in the week against Saint Vincent. The women now sport a 2-3 record overall.

Rachel Hodsden won the first doubles match easily, taking the top flight contest 6-1. Senior

Abigail Anderson also coasted to victory in No. 3 doubles by a score of 6-2. No. 2 doubles went down to the wire, with sophomore
Paige Phillips and senior
Paris Silverstein battling all the way, but they eventually dropped the match 6-7. By that point, however, Geneva had already clinched the two wins necessary to earn the doubles point, nullifying the result in the final score.
The Golden Tornadoes handled Pitt-Greensburg well in singles play as well, with DeSanzo, Anderson, senior
Caroline Reed, and senior
Julia Grove not giving up more than four points combined across their two sets in any of their matches. Phillips' match in No. 4 singles was a bit closer, though she still won handily, 6-2, 6-3. Hodsden's match was the only one that wound up being a nailbiter, with the senior winning No. 2 singles in three sets and taking the tiebreaker 10-8.
It will be less than a 24-hour turnaround for the women, who are back on the Blackhawk courts tomorrow, September 24, at 6:00 p.m., for a match with Division II Clarion University. After that, the GTs will return to PAC play with a home match versus Grove City over the weekend.
