BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva women's tennis team stayed hot Thursday evening, defeating Division II Clarion University 7-0 for their third sweep in four days. After dropping the first three matches of the season against quality opponents, the Golden Tornadoes have rebounded, bringing their record to 3-3 overall.
The women began their contest with the Golden Eagles by winning two out of three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Junior

Rachel Hodsden combined to win their No. 1 doubles match 6-0, and sophomore
Paige Phillips and senior
Paris Silverstein earned a 6-0 victory in No. 3 doubles as well.
DeSanzo began singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the top flight. Sophomore
Abigail Anderson won 6-1, 6-1, in No. 3 singles, and Phillips followed her in the No. 4 slot with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Seniors
Caroline Reed and
Julia Grove played No. 5 and No. 6 singles for the GTs, winning their matches 6-1, 6-0, and 6-2, 6-0, respectively. Hodsden was the only Golden Tornado to have her match go to three sets, dropping the first frame in No. 2 singles 1-6 before storming back to win the next two sets in tie-breaking fashion, 7-6, 11-9.
"I'm proud of the way the team competed from start to finish," said head coach
Nate Heidengren afterward. "We set the tone in doubles and continued to battle through every match. In a nail-biter until the last tie-breaking point, Rachel, down two match points, fought with true grit and composure to win her third match in a row. The team could not be more proud of this sweep."
Despite playing three times this week already, the women have one more match to play before the week closes, taking on Grove City this Saturday, September 26, at 12:00 p.m. on Blackhawk Courts.
