WOOSTER, Ohio – The Geneva College women's soccer team held Wooster scoreless for the first half of its road match on Tuesday afternoon, but ultimately the Fighting Scots broke through, scoring twice in the second half to win 2-0. Geneva is now 2-2 on the season.
Geneva could not get anything going in the first half against the talented Wooster squad, with the Golden Tornadoes unable to gain much possession. The defense, led by sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Foster, did hold strong though, absorbing the Wooster pressure but keeping the ball of out the net with Foster making five saves.
In the second half, though, the Fighting Scots broke through with two goals over a nine-minute stretch early in the final period, and the offense could not generate a comeback before falling, 2-0.
Geneva managed just three shots in the match, while Foster was busy throughout, totaling 12 saves on the 14 shots she faced on goal. That was just two saves off of her career high of 14 saves she posted last year at Kenyon.
Geneva's schedule stays tough this weekend as that same Kenyon squad comes to town on Friday night for a 6:00 p.m. contest down on the grass field at the Merriman Athletic Complex. The women begin conference play next week.
