Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Loses at Undefeated Pitt-Greensburg

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Geneva College women's soccer team knew it had a tough task ahead of itself when traveled to undefeated Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday afternoon.  Despite a valiant effort from the Golden Tornadoes, a late goal near the end of the first half proved to be the difference, as Pitt-Greensburg defeated Geneva, 1-0.  Pitt-Greensburg improved to 6-0, while Geneva fell to 3-3.

Pitt-Greensburg came out the aggressor in the first half, and they pressured Geneva early looking for a goal.  Geneva's defense held fast, though, with senior goalkeeper Danielle Lincoln (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) being called on early to keep the Bobcats off the board.  Late in the first half, though, with just over a minute remaining, Pitt-Greensburg finally broke through when Ashley Lucas scored on a long free kick to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.  Pitt-Greensburg outshot Geneva 10-2 in the half, including 7-1 in shots on goal.

The Bobcats continued to have the better of the play in the second half, as Geneva's offense struggled to create many scoring opportunities.  Pitt-Greensburg tried to find a second goal, but Lincoln and Geneva's defense was successful at keeping its deficit from growing any further.  Unfortunately, the equalizer never came for the Golden Tornadoes, and Pitt-Greensburg finished the victory off, 1-0.

"We knew it would be a tough challenge today," said Head Coach Linda Sumner.  "Pitt-Greensburg has been playing really well so far this season.  Dani was really good in goal today and kept us in the game, along with our defense, but we just couldn't find enough offense to generate any goals."

For the game, Pitt-Greensburg outshot Geneva 15-3, including an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal.  Lincoln finished the game with nine saves.

Geneva will return home and prepare for its next match this Saturday at home against Marietta starting at 2:00 p.m.
