Tipton Brothers Sweep PAC Weekly Awards

GREENVILLE, Pa. – It was quite the season-opening week for junior Lyle Tipton (Glenside, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian) and freshman Trevor Tipton (Glenside, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian), brothers on the Geneva College men's basketball team.  On Monday, the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) named Lyle Tipton the PAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while Trevor Tipton was named the PAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week.

Lyle Tipton put together one of the best weeks in recent memory for a Geneva men's basketball player.  He scored a career-high 39 points in Geneva's season-opening victory at Kenyon, which was the most points scored in a single game for a men's player since 1997.  He followed that game up with scoring totals of 25 points against Lancaster Bible on Friday and 22 points against Albion on Saturday during the Coaches vs Cancer Tipoff Classic.

For the week, Tipton averaged 28.7 points per game, shooting 54% from the floor, include a 2-of-4 effort from long range.  He also was big for Geneva on the boards, earning double-doubles against Kenyon and Lancaster Bible and finishing with the week averaging 9.7 rebounds per game.  In addition, Tipton stuffed the stat sheet in just about every category, contributing 2.3 steals, 2.0 assists and 1.7 blocks per game.  His 28.7 scoring average is third in NCAA Division III currently.

Lyle Tipton's younger brother Trevor Tipton made an immediate impact starting off his Golden Tornado career.  He hit a huge three-pointer with less than a minute to go against Kenyon to preserve the season-opening victory over the Lords, and then he contributed 13 points, four rebounds and two steals in Geneva's win over Lancaster Bible on Friday.  His four three-pointers so far this season are second on the team.

The Tipton brothers, along with the rest of the Geneva men's team, are headed to Marietta tomorrow to take on a Pioneer team that opened the season ranked third in the nation.  Marietta is coming off an eight-point loss to #1-ranked Randolph-Macon on Saturday.  Geneva will then open PAC play the following week with a game at Thiel on December 1.
