BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Geneva College senior Lyle Tipton added to his collection of weekly awards on Monday, earning his third Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week award this season, while also getting named the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Tipton led Geneva to two victories last week. He scored 26 first-half points, on his way to 35 overall points, in an 85-69 victory over Allegheny, and then on Saturday he scored 29 points and grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds in an 81-71 win over Franciscan.
For the week he averaged 32.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals. He is now averaging 28.7 points per game, which is third most in NCAA Division III and would break Geneva's single season record of 26.4 points per game set by Bill Blair in the 1953-54 season. He is also averaging 8.8 rebounds while shooting 52% from the floor, 39% from three-point range and 71% from the free throw line. He leads the PAC in scoring and is in the top ten in FG%, FT%, rebounding and steals.
Tipton and the men will host a strong Carnegie Mellon team on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. for one of their toughest contests of the season.
