NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Geneva sophomore
Kevin Arseneaux earned two victories at the Muskie Pride Meet hosted by Muskingum College on Saturday afternoon. He was one of 13 men's track & field student-athletes to score team points for the Golden Tornadoes.
"This was a huge day for our squad," said Geneva head coach
Phil Thompson. "The first meet back from Christmas break is usually rough, but this team came to compete. It was evident that they had put in some work over the break."
Arseneaux earned wins in the 1 Mile Run and the 800 Meter Run. He missed topping his Geneva personal-best by two-tenths of a second in the 1 Mile race at 4:24.43, following up with the victory in the 800 in 1:57.22.
Junior
Jack Garvin was the runner-up in the high jump with a height of 1.90 meters, putting him in the lead in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) in the event. He also competed in the long jump with a 15
th-place finish of 5.91 meters.
"Big Kev put on a show in the mile to win, then followed it up with the win in the 800," said Thompson. "We had other great performances, including Jack with a huge PR in the high jump which puts him on the top of the PAC in the event."
Arseneaux was one of four Golden Tornadoes to collect team points in the mile and one of three in the 800.
Archie McKissick (2:12.52) and
Tommy Corbin (2:13.53) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 800.
Eli Eisenberger finished third in the mile with a time of 4:40.09, while Corbin (4:46.50) placed sixth, and McKissick (4:46.72) placed seventh.
Dez Lewis and
Josh Blessing advanced to the 60 Meter Dash finals. Lewis ran a 7.25 for fifth place, while Blessing ran a 7.27 for sixth place. They were half of the men's 4x200 Meter Relay team that was runner-up in 1:34.73. Lewis and Blessing were joined on the relay by
Josh Haines and
Gabe Trexler.
Blessing finished third in the 200 Meter Dash with a sprint of 23.73.
David Kondraciuk (24.25) and Haines (24.48) placed fifth and eighth, respectively, in the 200.
Alec McCready added points from the track with a fourth-place finish in the 400 Meter Dash in a time of 55.60.
In the field events,
Noah Foust placed fifth in the shot put (13.55 meters), and
Giovanni Segura was seventh in the weight throw at 13.29 meters.
The Golden Tornadoes return to action on Friday, January 20 at the YSU Collegiate Invitational, the second of three meets Geneva will compete in this indoor season at Youngstown State.
