ALLIANCE, Ohio – Junior Allison Standish increased her own school record in the weight throw on Saturday at the Mount Union Jim Wuske Invitational, winning the weight throw with another impressive performance, highlighting the day for the Golden Tornadoes.
The weekend actually opened for the track and field team with senior Kevin Arseneaux participating in a meet at Penn State on Friday afternoon where he ran the 800-meters in 1:56.09, the fastest time in the Presidents' Athletic Conference this season by almost four seconds.
Standish was the standout on Saturday at Mount Union, winning the weight throw with a toss of 14.63 meters, increasing her own school record in the event by almost a third of a meter. Freshman Kyla Parks finished ninth in the event with a throw of 12.00 meters. Standish also placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 11.48 meters.
Junior Hailey Carroll made her debut this season for the Golden Tornadoes after battling injuries for much of the school year, and she placed third in the 800-meters with a time of 2:27.78. Freshman Sienna Dunkleberger also placed eighth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:39.61.
Freshman Olivia Seetoo had a great day in the high jump, clearing a season best 1.55 meters to place fifth. Seetoo also ran on the 4x200-meter relay team, along with junior Alayna Wilkins and sophomores Kaelyn Hartman and Katelyn Mathews, that finished third with a time of 2:03.76.
On the men's side, graduate student Jack Garvin was the top finisher, placing fourth in the high jump by clearing 1.85 meters. Senior Desmond Lewis placed sixth in the 200-meters with a time of 23.13 seconds. Junior Eli Eisenberger placed seventh in the 3000-meters with a time of 9:16.13, while junior Seth Tyson placed seventh in the triple jump with an effort of 11.69 meters.
Next week a portion of the track and field team will head to Cedarville to participate in the National Christian College Athletic Association Indoor Championships, beginning on Friday.
