Track and Field Stays Busy with Meet at West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The Geneva College men's and women's track and field teams continued with its busy schedule on Saturday, with the teams competing in their second outdoor meet of the season at the West Virginia Marty Pushkin Invitational.  A total of 23 schools and track clubs competed at the event, including several Division II schools.

On the men's side, sophomore Abe Konneh picked up right where he left off from last week after competing at the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship meet.  On Saturday, he won the 200-meters with a time of 21.76 seconds and finished second in the 100-meters with a time of 10.74 seconds.

In addition to Konneh, the men had several other top eight finishes in the sprints.  Freshman Judah Abram placed fifth in the 100-meters with a time of 11.04 seconds, while freshman Alex Mastoris placed eighth with a time of 11.16 seconds.

Freshman Andrew Potter placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.44 seconds, while freshman Zach Lucas placed seventh with a time of 17.02 seconds.

Sophomore Nathan Smith placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.31, while freshman Titus Mathews placed eighth in the 200-meters with a time of 22.57 seconds.  In addition, the men's 4x100m relay team of Abram, Konneh, Mastoris and freshman Karim Ouardirhi finished second with a time of 42.15 seconds

Graduate student Jack Garvin placed second in the high jump, clearing 1.93 meters.  Freshman Stanford Webb finished third in the long jump with a distance of 6.51 meters, while freshman Amiri Copeland placed eighth with a jump of 6.19 meters.  Junior Isaac Nirella added a fifth-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 4.25 meters.

A significant number of distance runners took the weekend off, but senior Tommy Corbin did compete and finished seventh in the 5000-meters with a time of 15:35.00.

Junior Daphne Alexander continued her standout season with another strong performance in the high jump, bringing home the women's lone first place finish on the day by clearing 1.62 meters.  Junior Katelyn Mathews and sophomore Olivia Seetoo tied for fifth in the event, both clearing 1.50 meters.

Alexander also ran on the women's 4x100m relay team, along with senior Rowan Dennis and sophomores Sara Vos and Arionna White that placed second with a time of 50.60 seconds.  White added a fourth-place finish in the 100-meters with a time of 12.83 seconds, while Vos finished seventh in the 100-meters with a time of 12.93 seconds and eighth in the 200-meters with a time of 26.34 seconds.

Senior Allison Standish had a very busy and successful day in the throws.  She placed third in the shot put (11.05 meters), fourth in the hammer throw (42.65 meters) and fifth in the discus (31.90 meters).  Additionally, senior Emily Garvin placed third in the javelin with a toss of 33.32 meters.
