Standish’s Win Highlights Day One at Outdoor PAC Championships

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Geneva College men's and women's track and field teams began defense of their Indoor Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships from February on Thursday on the first day of the Outdoor PAC Championships, hosted at West Virginia University.  Senior Allison Standish's win in the hammer throw highlighted several strong performances, with senior Carmen Medvit also performing very well while breaking a school record in the 10000m race.

Standish won her first PAC title with the victory in the hammer throw, finishing with the top throw of 47.73 meters, defeating her nearest competitor by almost four meters.

Medvit finished second overall in the 10000m race, breaking her own school record from three years go by ten seconds with a time of 37:04.02.  Sophomore Audrey McAlister placed fourth in the event with a time of 38:58.91, while sophomore Sienna Jackson took sixth with a time of 40:50.39.

On the men's side of the 10000m race, sophomore Matt Otto placed second with a time of 31:39.62 in an event the Golden Tornadoes captured half of the top eight placers.  Senior Eli Eisenberger was third with a time of 31:55.16, senior Tommy Corbin was fourth with a time of 32:11.17, and freshman Xaver Alexander finished eighth with a time of 33:34.81.

Graduate student Jack Garvin had a tremendous day in javelin, placing second with a throw of 53.94 meters, which was a big boost after he came in with the 14th best throw leading into the championship meet.  Garvin also placed seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 12.55 meters.  The men did quite well in the triple jump, with freshman Amiri Copeland finishing third with a jump of 13.21 meters and freshman Cooper Wilkins right behind in fourth with a mark of 12.94 meters.

On the women's side of the triple jump, junior Kaelyn Hartman had a huge personal best mark, finishing third overall with a mark of 10.62 meters.  In the javelin, senior Emily Garvin finished fourth with a throw of 36.14 meters. 

Sophomore Ethan Haring added a second-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase with at time of 9:45.85, while senior Evan Freil finished seventh with a time of 10:26.08.  On the women's side of the event, freshman Nicole Ochs placed eighth with a time of 12:39.89.

In the pole vault, freshman Nathan Bailey placed fifth with a height of 3.79 meters, while sophomore Emma Thellman placed sixth on the women's side with a height of 2.80 meters.

Geneva's sprinters also ran very well in the preliminary events.  On the women's side, sophomore Arionna White ran the fastest time in the 100-meters with a time of 12.51 seconds, while sophomore Sara Vos placed fourth with a time of 12.62 seconds.  In the 100m hurdles, junior Daphne Alexander placed fourth with a time of 15.82 seconds, while freshman Rachel Baird finished eighth with a time of 16.31 seconds.  All four qualified for the finals of the their event, which takes place tomorrow.

On the men's side, four different sprinters ran a sub-11 second 100-meters.  Sophomore Abe Konneh ran the second fastest time at 10.67 seconds, freshman Judah Abram finished seventh with a time of 10.93 seconds, and freshman Alex Mastoris finished eighth with a time of 10.96 seconds.  That trio qualified for the finals.  Freshman Karim Ouardirhi just missed out on the finals with a time of 10.99 seconds.

The start of the final day of events on Friday begins at 10:00 a.m., with the field events starting first and the track events starting at 12:30 p.m.
