YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Senior Kevin Arseneaux posted another big performance at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday, hosted at Youngstown State. Arseneaux won two races while leading the men to a fifth-place finish overall.
Arseneaux began his day by crushing his competition in the mile, breaking his own school record with a time of 4:12.71. That time also set a new PAC Championship meet record, and it is the third straight year Arseneaux has won the mile race. A little over an hour later, Arseneaux won the 800-meter race with a time of 1:54.53, the second straight year he won the event. He also ran the mile leg in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) that placed third with a time of 10:57.33.
Graduate student Jack Garvin had another strong day. He placed second in the high jump with a height of 1.96 meters, just getting edged out for his third straight title in the event. He also placed seventh in the 60-meter dash, finishing with a time of 7.17 seconds despite stumbling out of the blocks.
Senior Desmond Lewis also ran well in the sprints. He finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.09 seconds. He also placed sixth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.05 seconds.
Freshman Ethan Haring earned points for Geneva with a seventh-place finish in the mile with a time of 4:29.13. He also ran the 400-meter leg on the DMR relay with Arseneaux and freshmen Nate Gray and Trevor Nasso that placed third. Haring also posted a tenth-place finish in the 800-meters with a time of 2:05.01.
In the jumps, junior Seth Tyson placed sixth in the long jump with a personal best effort of 6.15 meters. Freshman Isaac Butler earned points in the pole vault, finishing seventh by clearing 3.65 meters. Junior Eli Eisenberger also earned a point in the 5000-meters with an eighth-place finish in a time of 15:57.57, while he just missed out on the medal stand in the 3000-meters with a time of 9:30.09, placing him ninth.
In addition, junior Alec McCready ran a strong leg in the 400-meter race with a time of 52.76 seconds, good for ninth place. Senior Amari Andrews also just missed out on points in the 200-meters, placing ninth with a time of 22.86 seconds, while freshman Matt Otto placed tenth in the 5000-meters with a time of 16:06.66.
In the throws, senior Jackson Thomas was the top finisher for the men, finishing tenth in the weight throw with a distance of 11.35 meters.
Geneva will now turn its attention towards the outdoor season. The track and field teams will head to Myrtle Beach in two weeks over Geneva's spring break for training and a meet at Coastal Carolina on March 14 and 15.
