MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Graduating seniors Kevin Arseneaux and Jack Garvin both had big days at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, leading the men to a fourth-place finish at the meet, hosted at West Virginia University. If not for a couple injuries during races, the men would have placed third.
Arseneaux won both of his individual races, winning the 800-meters in a time of 1:53.03 and the 1500-meters in a time of 3:53.13. It's the third straight year Arseneaux has swept those events at the outdoor championships.
Garvin won the high jump, an event he has dominated over the past three years, clearing 2.00 meters, his best jump of the season. He also set a personal best in the long jump with a distance of 6.40 meters, which placed him third overall. He added a fourth-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 52.33 meters.
Junior Karter Reath had a strong championship, placing second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:43.87 and third in the 5,000-meters with a time of 15:50.18. Junior Eli Eisenberger also had strong distance performances, placing second in the 10,000-meters with a time of 32:32.83, a personal best, while placing seventh in the 5,000-meters with a time of 16:08.29. Freshman Ethan Haring added a personal best effort in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:56.30 to finish fourth, while junior Tommy Corbin scored in the 10,000-meters by placing eighth with a time of 33:57.66.
In the sprints, junior Seth Tyson ran a personal best in the 400-meters, finishing fourth with a time of 50.09 seconds. He also placed eighth in the triple jump with an effort of 12.60 meters, another personal best. Freshman Abraham Konneh finished sixth in the 200-meters with a time of 22.91 seconds, senior Desmond Lewis placed seventh in the 100-meters in a time of 11.75 seconds, and freshman Isaiah Etheridge scored in the 400-meters with a personal best time of 53.11 seconds, placing him eighth.
Geneva's sprinters also ran a tremendous race in the 4x100m relay, surprising multiple higher seeded teams by winning the race in 41.68 seconds. Lewis, Tyson, Konneh and senior Amari Andrews ran on the relay team.
Geneva's other two scorers for the men were senior Jackson Thomas, who placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 13.51 meters, a personal best, and freshman Isaac Butler in the pole vault, who finished sixth with a height of 3.60 meters.
The PAC Championships represent the end of the season for most of the team, as the Golden Tornadoes are not participating in the National Christian College Athletic Association Outdoor Championships this year because the meet occurs next week during Geneva's finals. Arseneaux and Garvin will compete at least once or twice more in last chance meets seeking qualification into the NCAA Division III Championships.
