YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Geneva College women's track and field team received several strong performances on Thursday at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Indoor Championships, hosted at Youngstown State, including school records from juniors Carmen Medvit and Allison Standish. Geneva placed fifth overall.
The women posted three second-place finishes to highlight the performances. Standish tied her own school record in the weight throw, placing second with an effort of 14.63 meters. She also placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 11.33 meters.
Medvit placed second in the 5000-meters with a time of 17:52.65, breaking her own school record by almost ten seconds. She also ran the mile leg on the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) that place third with a time of 12:48.44. Seniors Rachel Blessing and Madison Castro, along with junior Hailey Carroll, also ran on the relay.
Freshman Sara Vos posted a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash with an impressive time of 8.12 seconds. She also ran on the 4x400-meter relay team, along with senior Favour Oladapo, sophomore Brooklen Helton and freshman Arionna White, that placed sixth with a time of 4:32.38. White also had a strong day in the 60-meter sprint, placing seventh in a time of 8.31 seconds.
Freshman Olivia Seetoo placed fifth in the high jump with a height of 1.53 meters, while sophomore Daphne Alexander and freshmen Katelyn Mathews and Emma Thellman all tied at 1.43 meters, just missing out on points with a tie for ninth place.
Carroll scored points for the women in the 800-meters, finishing seventh with a time of 2:20.99. Freshman Kyla Parks also scored a point for Geneva in the weight throw with an eighth-place finish, tossing 12.72 meters. Sophomore Kaelyn Hartman added a tenth-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 9.80 meters.
Geneva will now turn its attention towards the outdoor season. The track and field teams will head to Myrtle Beach in two weeks over Geneva's spring break for training and a meet at Coastal Carolina on March 14 and 15.
