KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Eight Geneva College men's basketball players were honored for their excellence in the classroom over the past year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), earning a spot on the NABC Honors Court. In addition, the entire men's basketball program was honored with the Academic Team Excellence Award for its work in the classroom as a team. This is the sixth straight season the program has received the team award.
In order to receive individual distinction, a student-athlete must be a junior, senior or graduate student and finish the school year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher. To receive the team award, a program must complete the academic year with a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
The eight student-athletes honored were graduate students KC Johns (MBA) and Ryan Rachic (Cybersecurity), senior Mark Rachic (Nursing), and juniors Trey Barker (Marketing), Jonathan Bertovich (Business), Brayden Costea (Engineering), Danny Lauer (Business) and Alec Srock (Business).
"I'm really proud of the efforts of these individuals and of our team as a whole," said Head Coach Jeff Santarsiero. "Awards like these speak to the desire of our guys to be excellent both on the court and in the classroom."
