Romano Named PAC Offensive Player of the Week

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Junior quarterback Caleb Romano was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Offensive Player of the week on Monday after his historic passing performance in Saturday's 55-35 victory over Saint Vincent in the PAC opener.

Romano's passing talent is one of the reasons the football team decided to move its offense away from the triple option attack this season to a more passing heavy focus, and fans on Saturday got to see why.

The Bearcats had no answer for Romano and his talented group of wide receivers.  Romano finished the day 31-of-41 (75.6%) for 484 yards and seven passing touchdowns.  He also ran for 15 yards and added an additional rushing touchdown.  Even more impressively, Romano accomplished those numbers in primarily just three quarters, as he sat out most of the fourth quarter with Geneva holding a commanding lead.

Romano's passing yards total is second in school history behind Zack Hayward's 535-yard performance against Frostburg State in 2012, and his seven passing touchdowns tied Hayward's seven passing touchdowns in that same game.  Romano is the first player in program history to account for eight touchdowns in a single game.

While the season is only three games along, Romano has already surpassed 1,000 passing yards this season while throwing 11 touchdown passes.  His current pace would break the single season school record in both passing yardage and passing touchdowns.  Geneva Hall of Fame quarterback Justin Myers currently holds both records from his 1997 season in which he passed for 3,125 yards and 31 touchdowns.

Also of note, Romano's primary target on Saturday was senior wide receiver Keaton Baker, who also posted a record-breaking performance.  Baker brought in 12 catches for a school record 282 yards, and his four receiving touchdowns tied the school record.
