BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College football program hired Will Edgar to take over as the Defensive Coordinator after Tom Contenta, last year's defensive coordinator, was promoted to take over the program as head coach.
Edgar is a familiar face for the Golden Tornadoes after he served as a graduate assistant in the program two years ago. A native of Washington, Pennsylvania, Edgar graduated from Waynesburg in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in business administration before beginning his graduate studies at Geneva in 2023 in higher education.
"I'm excited to be back working with a lot of familiar faces," says Edgar. "I think Geneva is a special place where we get to invest as coaches in our players both on and off the field, and I can't wait to get to work developing the identity that Coach Contenta has established on defense over the years."
Edgar began his coaching career while still in college, with stints at both Brownsville High School and Waynesburg Central High School over a three-year stretch from 2020 through 2022. During those two roles, he served as both the defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator, while he also helped oversee the offensive and defensive lines.
In his prior stint at Geneva, Edgar coached the defensive backs and safeties in 2023, and in 2024 he oversaw the defensive line while also serving as a quality control coach.
Prior to the 2025 football season, Edgar was hired away by Hampden-Sydney College to be a full-time football assistant, coaching the defensive line while also serving as the video coordinator and assistant recruiting coordinator.
"Will Edgar is the perfect hire for us at Defensive Coordinator because of his ability to strengthen and elevate overall performance on the field," says Contenta. "Beyond his knowledge of strategy and leadership, he has a proven ability to connect with student-athletes in meaningful ways. He is committed to mentoring them not only as players, but as individuals while instilling character, integrity and faith-based values. Our goal is to build a defense that reflects both competitive excellence and Christ-centered principles."
