GREENWOOD, Ind. – Senior Kirk Bearjar and sophomore Marco Chenet from the Geneva baseball team were honored by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) this week as Academic All-District selections for their excellence both on the field and in the classroom over this past year.
To receive this distinction, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically while holding a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50. Players must also have played in at least 90 percent of their team's games or been a starter in at least 66 percent of their contests.
Bearjar, who just graduated with a degree in engineering last month, was a First Team All-Conference selection for the Golden Tornadoes this season after leading the team with a .375 average, 20 extra base hits, including five home runs, and 30 RBIs. This is the third time Bearjar has been honored as an Academic All-District selection. Chenet, an accounting major, batted in the middle of the Geneva lineup and posted a .289 average with 10 doubles and 20 RBIs.
