KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) honored the Geneva College men's basketball team, along with six individuals, with academic awards on Wednesday.
The men's basketball team was honored with the Academic Team Excellence Award for its effort in the classroom this past season. Teams that receive this honor must post a team grade point average of at least 3.0. This is now the seventh straight year the men have received this award.
In addition, graduate students Jonathan Bertovich (MBA), Danny Lauer (MBA) and Alec Srock (MBA), senior Trey Barker (Marketing), and juniors Ryan Edwards (Finance) and Micah Fisher (Mathematics with Secondary Education), were named on the NABC Honors Court for finishing the year with a grade point average of at least 3.2. Honorees must be a junior, senior or graduate student to qualify.
"I'm really proud of our team's consistent academic work over the years," said Coach Jeff Santarsiero. "Every year our guys put in the work in the classroom, which is such an important part of Division III athletics. Academics was always something I stressed during my time with the program, and I'm so grateful for the ways these guys have excelled in the classroom."
