GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) released its postseason football awards on Tuesday afternoon, as voted on by the coaches, and ten Golden Tornadoes received all-conference recognition, led by senior quarterback Amos Luptak (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley), who was named a First Team All-PAC selection.
Luptak, who last season was named an Honorable Mention All-PAC selection, was selected to the First Team in the all-purpose slot, since Geneva's triple-option attack makes him an unconventional quarterback statistically. The three-year starter led Geneva with 741 yards rushing, second most in the PAC, along with a team-high eight rushing touchdowns. In addition, his 176.6 passer rating was the highest in the PAC after he finished the season with 793 yards passing and 12 touchdowns. Geneva's 22.7 yards per completion was 2nd in NCAA Division III.
Three offensive linemen, who were a big reason why Geneva had such success on the ground this year, received all-conference recognition. Sophomore center Andy Mellinger (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport) was named as a Second Team All-PAC selection, while senior tackle Lukas Lamer (Brackenridge, Pa./Highlands) and junior guard Louie Delcolle (Youngstown, Ohio/Ursuline) were named as Honorable Mention All-PAC selections. The trio started all ten games for the Golden Tornadoes, and they were a big part of Geneva's 268.8 yards rushing per game, most in the PAC and 9th in NCAA Division III.
Also on offensive, junior Jared Ozias (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville) was named a Second Team All-PAC selection at the tight end position. Though Geneva doesn't pass often, Ozias hauled in five passes for 170 yards (34.0 ypc) and two touchdowns. He also played an important role in Geneva's rushing attack with his blocking up front.
Defensively, sophomore linebacker Kaden Romero (Red Rock, Okla./Putnam City North) led the way for Geneva as a Second Team All-PAC selection. Romero consistently wreaked havoc on opposing offenses in his first season as a Golden Tornado. He led Geneva, and was fourth in the PAC, with 79 tackles. He finished second in the PAC with 15.0 tackles-for-loss (TFL), and his 6.5 sacks were 6th in the PAC.
Junior defensive lineman Haddon Schlarbaum was named as an Honorable Mention All-PAC selection. He finished the season with 25 tackles, and he was third on the team with 6.5 TFLs. His 4.5 sacks were 10th in the PAC.
Sophomore defensive back James Clark (Fairfax, Va./Wakefield) also received Honorable Mention All-PAC honors. He was last season's PAC Newcomer of the Year, and he played an important role for the Golden Tornadoes this season as well. His four interceptions tied for 4th in the PAC. He also added 44 tackles, seven passes defended and three pass breakups.
Joining Clark in the defensive backfield as an Honorable Mention All-PAC selection was sophomore Damian Lomeli (Tampa, Fla./Gaither), who also made a big impact in his first season on campus. Lomeli finished with 40 tackles, 4.5 TFLs, two interceptions, five passes defended, three pass breakups, a forced fumble and a blocked punt.
Geneva's final selection was sophomore wide receiver/returner Hilton McClain Jr. (Belle Glade, Fla./Royal Palm Beach), who received Honorable Mention All-PAC honors for his work as a kick returner. McClain Jr. led the PAC with 984 kick return yards, a Geneva school record, on a 23.4 yards per return average. He returned a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown against Grove City. His 1,240 all-purpose yards were third in the PAC.
One noticeable omission in the all-conference honors was junior linebacker Nicolas Ottaviani (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside), who despite missing Geneva's final game against Westminster, still finished in the top ten in the PAC in tackles (68) and TFLs (11.5), along with leading the PAC with three forced fumbles. Sophomore fullback Tyler Lippiatt (Salem, Ohio/United) also had a strong season for the Golden Tornadoes, finishing with 680 yards rushing, tied for fourth in the PAC.
In addition, senior wide receive Peyton Schell (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) was named to the PAC Sportsmanship Team. Schell led the Geneva offense with 15 receptions for 268 yards and five touchdowns.
