Track and Field Competes at YSU National Mid-Major Invitational

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Geneva College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Youngstown State National Mid-Major Invitational on Friday and Saturday afternoon.  The meet had over 55 schools and clubs competing.

The women were led by senior Katryn Gatchell (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion), who finished fourth overall in the 1K race in time of 3:10.88.  Freshman Madison Castro (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian Academy) finished seventh in the 1K with a time of 3:19.85, while sophomore Catherine O'Donnell (Blairsville, Pa./Homeschool) placed 11th in the event with a time of 3:24.90.  Gatchell also placed 10th in the 800-meter race in a time of 2:23.83, just narrowly missing the indoor school record by less than half a second. 

Senior Olivia Younger (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) placed 13th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.41 seconds.  Senior Jessie Taylor (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) placed 17th in the 3000-meter race with a time of 11:18.65.  Junior Abby Laborde (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) ran a time of 19:05.24 in the 5000-meter race, good for 18th place overall.

For the men, senior Gabe Willis (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) finished 13th in the 1K with a time of 2:39.83.  Sophomore Lawiltaye Robinson (Tampa, Fla./Bloomingdale) placed 21st in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.07 seconds.  Freshman Kevin Arseneaux (Yarmouth Port, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) ran strong times in the mile, 4:29.77, as well as the 3000-meter race, 9:05.24.

Sophomore Noah Foust (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) turned in a good effort in the throwing events, placing 20th in the shot put, with a distance of 13.20 meters, and 21st in the weight throw with a toss of 12.32 meters.

The men and women will be back in action next Saturday at the Jim Wuske Invitational, hosted by Mount Union.
