Women’s Tennis Opens Spring with Win at La Roche

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Geneva College women's tennis team returned to action for the first time this spring on Saturday afternoon, earning a 7-2 victory at La Roche.  The Golden Tornadoes have now won four straight matches dating back to the fall.

Geneva swept the three doubles matches to begin the day.  Junior Laura Lin Comollo (Smyrna, Dela./Polytech) and freshman Delaney Winterhalter (Carnegie, Pa./South Fayette) won their match in #1 singles 8-7, winning the tiebreaker 10-6.  Senior Mady Paquet (Ellsworth, Wisc./Ellsworth) and sophomore Ella Miller (Freedom, Pa./Ambridge) won their match in #2 singles 8-2.  And senior Caleigh Pumphrey (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville) and freshman Cassy Kehs (Cochranville, Pa./Oxford Area) won in #3 singles 8-1.

In singles action, Paquet won in #2 singles 6-0, 6-1.  Winterhalter, Pumphrey and Miller each swept their opponent in the third, fourth and fifth flights, 6-0, 6-0, to finish out the scoring for Geneva. 

The women will have one more spring match this semester when they host Penn State Altoona on Saturday, April 2, for a 12:00 p.m. match at Blackhawk Courts.
